BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
The Computer Management Assistant works in the General Services Section, USAID/Pakistan, Lahore Field Office, but serves the entire Field Office. The Assistant takes the lead in management of all Lahore Field Office computer and telephone systems. The Assistant is responsible for computer and telephone operations, support of applications systems, maintenance and repair of hardware, telecommunications, and systems development; advises office management on the selection, procurement, and distribution of equipment and software within the Mission; and, as needed, works with local vendors, USAID/Pakistan staff in Islamabad staff and USAID/Washington, and with non-USAID organizations, as well as assisting Lahore Field Office users in all automation matters. The work requires a broad and comprehensive knowledge of Local Area Network (LAN) systems, and PC-based hardware and software. The Assistant must have strong technical and communications skills.
QUALIFICATION REQUIRED:
EDUCATION: Completion of education resulting in an undergraduate degree or the local equivalent, in computer science, information systems management or the equivalent is required.
EXPERIENCE: At least four years of progressively responsible work of a program, technical, or administrative nature, where emphasis is placed on analytical, judgmental, and expository abilities with respect to the operation, management, and utilization of complex computer systems. At least one year must have been in operation of computers, providing PC support, and performing entry-level programming work. Experience in working in a client/server environment is preferred.
LANGUAGE: Level IV English and Urdu (fluency) is required. Fluency in spoken Punjabi is also required.
KNOWLEDGE: Expert knowledge of present day computer technology, telecommunications equipment and Worldwide Web use plus applicability in work processes is required. Expertise in the use and application of standard off the shelf software packages and operating systems e.g. Windows 2000 is essential. Knowledge of Databases is a plus. Concepts of systems design, network management, operations and maintenance is desired. Working knowledge on programming Access, Excel/Word Macros is necessary. In addition, knowledge of Web publishing software is highly desired.
ABILITIES&SKILLS: Good technical skills are required in order to trouble-shoot, diagnose, and resolve hardware and software problems, and to maximize the capabilities of Lahore Field Office computer resources. Good interpersonal skills, in order to develop and maintain two-way communications and promote computer services, are required. The ability to relate priorities to the capabilities and limitations of the computer system and components on hand, in order to determine the capability to meet support requirements; the ability to articulate system requirements to managers in order to secure support for computer programs, and to maximize opportunities for automation; and, the ability to train Lahore Field Office staff in the use of software programs is required.
