Testimonials
My internship experience at HSBC was superb and I had a very good learning of Credit Cards and its processes and how it functions. I was attached as an Intern in OEMU (Unsecured Business) Karachi. My tasks included maintaining the MIS(s) and managed customer correspondence, other than this I also handled follow ups to customers related to credit cards.
In performing these tasks, I was able to gain a better understanding of Credit Cards, one of the most lucrative departments in a bank. The friendly and teaching environment made my learning easier and my overall experience a great one.

NAYYARA RAHMAN
Structure is often presented as the anathema of creativity. "It kills innovation!" says the popular voice. "It stubs original thought!" If only this voice would spend a day at HSBC!
The fact that HSBC had never had Management Trainees before us gave us a lot of room to experiment and grow. At the time, the Bank was still small and many of the core departments were in the process of building their teams, offering a unique opportunity for us to grab our spots and be assimilated into the organization a lot faster than MTs at other organizations. If I had to name the most critical success factors driving my growth at HSBC they would be my critical mind always challenging the status quo, the space my managers gave me to explore opportunities, and the accessibility of even some of the busiest people in the bank any time I’ve needed to bounce ideas around.
Working at HSBC has been both a pleasure and a steep learning curve. Interacting with different departments as an MT and then getting deeper into the banking system after being placed were two completely different experiences. One can only excel if they take full advantage of the opportunity to work in different departments to get an all around view of the banking systems and then get placed in the area they see fit. Most people never get that chance and the learning one gets proves invaluable once you are placed in a department and have actual deliverables.
The culture at HSBC generally facilitates learning, although initiative is required if one has to learn and progress. Carrying forth the learning in one department to the next builds up the experience curve and contributes to the notion of thinking ‘Joined up’. Assignments during rotations vary between being a breeze to challenging. The program ends up providing a good analysis of where one’s strengths lie and highlights areas where one can improve upon. The idea behind such a comprehensive MT program is to provide the trainees with a holistic view of banking.
After the initial six week classroom training, came the rigorous rotations which made me get a feel of each area of the bank be it corporate banking, personal banking or operations. And finally came the much awaited placement.
As I stepped into the world of HSBC (post-interview of course), I found myself in a strange place, a place where there was constant hustle & bustle, a place where time was always scarce and where people worked with the dedication and focus of a bee-hive in full swing. Thrown into the deep-end, fed information and banking law till my head was full and then some, I slowly felt my perception expanding, able to grasp the enormity and complexity of the banking process. However, one thing I did learn is that HSBC can quite literally be the best place to work if one can adapt to the requirements and principles of the organization. People were courteous although stern at times and helped me to learn the business as I proceeded through various rotations. As with any period of learning, there are moments of success and periods when one feels low. It is all a part of the learning curve. During the HSBC MT Program, I began to discover where my true strengths lay, as I simultaneously worked to do away with my shortcomings. My learning still continues unabated, and as I am ascribed greater responsibility, so the passion for working and learning continues.
