Ref 3: UAE Water Forecaster

Responsibilities included but not limited to:
  • Prepare the water demand forecast:
  • Prepare the ADWEC Water Demand Model using the bottom-up approach, supplemented by statistical and other modelling techniques.
  • Liaise with major developers to ensure that their projects are correctly included in the ADWEC Water Demand Model and its forecasts.
  • Analyse historical records of water demand and transmission data throughout regions in emirate of Abu Dhabi to ensure balance of supply and demand.
  • Conduct market research of new developments affecting water demand through data collection from government departments/site visits for population, housing development, agriculture, industries and forestry to forecast water demand generation activities.
  • Utilise geographic information system (GIS) and geographical maps to assist in the preparation of the water demand forecasts.
  • Prepare the annual electricity demand forecast report / presentation.

  • Coordinate water expansion planning:
  • Study water transmission system expansion plans with TRANSCO and maintain up-to-date database of water system network.
  • Conduct system studies for water flow analysis to examine the effect of water demand growth and prepare feasibility studies and design reports for proposed enhancement/additions to transmission/transformation equipment to assess economic and technical plans.
  • Highlight system bottlenecks according to seasonal load patterns, analyse problems to assist with the water capacity planning.
  • Contribute to studies of transmission constraints of water system on simulation software and analyse remedial solutions for future expansion planning.
  • Participate in analyses/recommendations for retiring water desalination capacity and network infrastructure.
  • Participate in the preparation of the ADWEC Statement of Future Capacity Requirements.
  • Build computer models for water networks using modelling software, input data into the demand forecast and perform calculations on spreadsheet for analysis.
  • Conduct analysis of the water transmission network and prepare transmission constraints report.
  • Liaise with TRANSCO, ADDC, AADC and generation and desalination companies for verification of data used to prepare the water demand forecast and ADWEC Statement of Future Capacity Requirements, collection of raw data and discussion of computer model water results.
  • Prepare water tables section of the annual operating report and participate in the preparation of ADWEC’s Statement of Future Capacity Requirements.
  • Liaise with Regulation & Supervision Bureau (RSB) and ADWEA Group of Companies for approvals and advice regarding demand forecast, water transmission and distribution and quality codes.
  • Advise the Procurement & Contracts Directorate on water demand forecast and transmission constraints during preparation of bulk supply tariff (BST).
  • Prepare a locality based population forecast for use in the water demand model using the aggregate population forecast.
  • Prepare other technical reports on water demand analysis as directed.
  • Update knowledge and skills on an ongoing basis.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Good Office applications knowledge.
  • Bachelor degree or equivalent qualification in relevant discipline as such science engineering.
  • Good computer skills and good English language and report writing skills
  • UAE national candidates
